Throw Away Your Television
Damn advertising. I'm starting to feel like I live in The Land That Time Forgot with my lame ass Cathode Ray Tubes in my home. Sure, it would be nice to have a flush mounted giant plasma flatscreen, but now I'm getting confused by the options. I just got served an LG pop-under ad as my mind wanders to the Sharp Aquos ads and the Sony Bravia ads. I don't know if Plasma or LCD is the way to go. Or do I listen to the little girl with the elephant who whispers about "the mirrors?" Screw it. Might just have to kill my TVs and quit watching. Maybe next year.
I do like this series for Sharp.

lcd's are awesome if you can afford them...very BRIGHT, although high-action viewing (like bourne ultimatum or most hockey games) are better on the plasma. we opted for the plasma (50-incher from costco for $1299). They've supposedly fixed all of the issues plasmas had 'back in the day'...the life of this thing is supposed to be 29 years based on average viewing. I wonder if average includes my 3yr olds' obsession with all things pixar (gee, where did she get that from?). My wife loves the High Def HGTV, which is a disaster for me, of course. They offer parental controls on our Tivo, I wish they offered spousal controls as well. *sigh*

Whatever you do, make sure it's tested technology. My Panasonic rear projection LCD was a nightmare, and I'm still waiting for the class action settlement to go through. Looks great when it works though.

Kill your TV. It's good for nothin'
(except for the Simpsons, Top Model, This Old House, Malcom in the Middle, Seinfeld, The Family Guy, MASH,... oh, I guess I can't kill my TV...

Checking into a Super 8 in North Carolina the manager goes: “We’re really sorry, but it’ll just be another five minutes. We’re not done installing the 37” plasma TV in one of your rooms yet.” There’s something wrong about that, I don’t know why. I’m used to a gigantor TV chained to a wall, and now, my S8 experience is slimmer.
So sad, so sad.

Well, since no one else answered your question - there's a nice little site that gives you so many damn differences that you're still left wondering which is better, but you'll gain some useful insight which will probably obsolete in four years anyway.

Everyone compares LCD and plasma. I think DLP should be considered in the television debate. If you go with DLP, you can get a much bigger screen for less money. The new LED DLP's also produce twice the colors than other technologies and use up to 40% less energy. Theres also no chance of motion blur and DLP's are immune to burn in.

I opted for a couple refurbished Sharp Aquos/Aquii? That way I'm ready for the digital change over, I can lift the TV because it has a swanky handle and I have 2 nice LCD TVs and I haven't invested a gob of money in crap entertainment.
