Ad Freak Off My List of Cool Places

I asked Ad Freak to link to Where's My Jetpack? and they politely said, "You're nobody and we won't link to you." (That's my paraphrase, but that's the gist of it.)

So their link is now gone from my "Cool Places" list at right. I'll still check in on them to see what they're up to, but no free linkage to those who find themselves too important. Adios, Freaks. It's only advertising. You're not changing the world.

  • WMJ,

I feel your pain...whats a low life ad blog to do when the man shits on his spirit? RISE UP, UNITE and BRING HIM DOWN. Viva La Revolution!

Seriously, if its any consolation, I hooked you on my ad blog. I hope that other C list bloggers will join us and do the same!

My only issue with your blog is the moderated comments. Take down the wall!!!

  • Hi, I work for a PR agency and we have frequent relevant news that might be what you're looking for to post here. Is there an email address I can send you press releases and media?

  • Advertising most certainly CAN change the world. Look a little closer. That said, I agree with ya' on the link removal and bad press - I've got no time for 'the elite'.

  • OK, Jeff:

    Comment moderation is off.

    Word verification still on.

And linked to you as well.

  • I'll give you a link, although my endorsement may hurt rather than help - since my blog is basically a bunch of snarky whining. What the hell -- do what you love.

  • Eric:

If you think it's relevant, send PR to jetpacks AT gmail. We'll review as we receive and post what works.

  • James:

Snark is good - link reciprocated.

  • i feel your pain.

i wrote to many leading media companies for a link to my blog and a little project i was doing on it, as well.

    very few saw the potential.

someone at ABC worldnews did though - and i got this:

i guess my point is - stay true to your idea and don't let a "snub" hold you back from following through with it.

i will surely link to you and look forward to your continued blogging!

a new reader, and ad guy,

  • Hey, Bryan:

Cool idea you had - nice job. And thanks for the kind words.

Nope - not giving up at all. I've been snubbed by bigger outfits than AdFreak. All in a day's blog.

And after a good night's sleep, I have to note this in fairness to Ad Freak: their blogroll is getting kind of long. I can't really fault them for not putting up some random, brand new blog with just a few posts on it. But as Charlie Gibson said in that piece on you, "A few catch on - sometimes by good writing." I hope to be one of those.

  • I think it's more than fair to point out a simple fact:

Nobody owes you a link just because you started yet another blog that's conflicted about the advertising industry.

  • Thank you, anonymous, for pointing that out, but no one said AdFreak owed me a link.

All I said was I was removing their link from my page.

"Yet another blog" is right. And anyone with half a soul should be conflicted about the ad industry - and perhaps work to change it - maybe even from within.
