Easiest Copywriting Job in the World
A weird synthesizer sets the stage for this toy commercial from Mattel. The agency told the client, "The toy sells itself. We just need to let the toy do the talking." From the early 70s, I'm guessing, so the copywriter was probably on acid at the time. Funky tune and nice bass work, though. Now if the VO guy had only said his lines on the beat, it would've been a masterwork.

I remember that ad - I also remember the follow sounds from the backyard: "OW! MY EYE!"

I didn't catch the name of the thing...

I might have to retaliate since that tune is rattling in my head.
I could have some fun with the toy though...

The music started Grateful Dead but kind of went Country Joe and the Fish. This spot might have been the inspiration for Head-On.

Deleted, yes.
Someone objecting to that?

This spot might have been the inspiration for Head-On.
Maybe if the Head-on guys had added some groovy music their commercial wouldn't be so annoying. ;)

I was born in 1978 and I vaguely remember finding one of those things at my grandmother's house (my mom had a younger sister who was still pretty young in the 70's)
Anyway, the ad was successful. I kind of want one of those things. I can shoot the discs and drive my cat crazy.

Naps is dead on - this track has a vibe similar to the first eight bars of Jerry Garcia's "The Wheel"
