Central Florida Doesn't Understand Social Media

A local police officer calls himself a "Super-Trained Killer Ninja Fighter of the Night" on his MySpace page and gets suspended.

After some MySpace trash-talking, local cheerleader mean girls lure a rival to a house and beat the crap out of her. They videotape the half-hour pummeling and post it on YouTube. Now they're in big trouble.

Hate to resort to cliches, but we took a look at the girl's video in the office yesterday and three of us said, in unison, only in America.

Thing is though, fight vids have been all over YT for a long time now. This just ups the stakes because of the planning behind it. And after listening to the mother of one of the girls defend her daughter in this, I now hold out no hope for my theory that within us is a dormant herd-thinning self-destruct gene which kicks in when we are beyond reproach. Shame too. This woulda made an excellent test case.

Whatever happened to the old days where they spilled syrup on a girl when she won prom queen only to have her use her mental powers to kill everyone? You know, good wholesome American fun.

@ stan: sad to say but I agree.... every day I just see so much more shit to go wtf at and not in the ha ha he just lit a fart wtf way...

@ jetpacks: Aus and NZ seem like better alternatives every day.

@ MTLB: just goes to show that a mom will defend her offspring no matter what.
