Helped Him or Hurt Him?

After this, I fear he's sunk. Way to go, Ellen. Ruin a promising politician. Why couldn't you have just stuck to your sad and stupid dog story?

I'm sure Hillary would be twice as embarrassing trying to dance. And now, thanks to Obama, we will never have to see that sight. I know there was a team of Obama people backstage cringing, burying their faces in their hands as he did this.

Could this have been calculated? Did they figure enough people would find it endearing and not embarrassing? Was this like Bill Clinton playing the sax on "Arsenio Hall" and "The Tonight Show"? If Michael Dukakis donning a helmet in a tank can kill a campaign; if Howard Dean screaming in victory can derail a career, I think Obama can safely call it over now.

What do you think?

  • yeah, but he's a shoo-in for next season's "dancing with the stars."

  • Yeesh. At least Obama has rhythm. Unlike poor Yeltsin. I'd vote for Obama over the robot any day.

  • Eh, it's endearing. I don't think it'll hurt anything. Especially since he actually does have some moves, there. Ain't a bad dancer.

  • I find the most offensive part of this to be that Ellen couldn't just talk issues with Obama. He's a very smart man, with a great take on many topics, yet good old Ellen insists on making him dance.

    Reminds me of this:

  • anonymous,

um, it is the ellen degeneres show. not the mcneil lehrer report.

  • Clinton played the sax on the Arsenio Hall show.

  • By himself, it's not a bad 'human' moment for a presidential candidate, but I think it made Ellen look more like a dork than anything. Her seizures made him look like a better dancer by default.

  • mtlb,

yeah, but despite his rugged good looks, between the two of them, ellen still manages to score the hotter chicks.

  • Correct, Andy3000. As well as Carson. Post has been edited.

  • the real question is did Osama violate the laws of Islam by dancing with Ellen. Even though he did not reveal is 'awrah', I'm pretty sure he broke a couple of rules getting jiggy with a lesbian. Our country is so messed up right now, our controversial candidates not only piss off conservative Americans but those outside of this country that would like to see us all decapitated anyway. Why couldn't he have just spent the evening beating up Bush with Bill Mahrer? *sigh* I vote for Colbert, damn it.

  • Bill Maher needs to find another country to live in. That guy is one big reason so many Muslims hate America. Bill Maher sucks. He mocks them ruthlessly, all the while claiming to be a tolerant liberal. Or Libertarian. Or comedian.

(Search "F*** Bill Maher" and see how many people think the same way.)

  • I dunno... maybe it depends on the demographic, coz I thought that was great.

  • That is the whitest white man's overbite I've seen since I watched myself dance in the mirror.

I want to see Fred Thompson chasing a greased pig in Iowa. Or Guiliani.

I'm terribly enthusiastic that this election will live or die by YouTube.
    I'm already setting bookmarks.

  • @james-h- Yep. YouTube will either help the Dems and their prevent D or it will kill them. YouTube might be more effective this time out than Drudge was last time and Kerry headlines every other day.

And the GOP will just play the fear card with oldies but goodies like:

    “In times like these...”

“The world is a dangerous place...”

or my fav, the hybrid (who says they aren't thinking green):

    “In these troubling times...”

Wait, I thought everything couldn't be better. We had pictures of sunrises to greet us at the bottom of the stairs each day and a smile on our faces.

Or no, we're not really safe.

This whole ‘world’ thing is SO confusing.
