Amtrak Keeps Sucking

Thankfully, no one was killed in the recent Amtrak wreck. After a thorough investigation, the authorities will conclude, as they always do, that the engineer smoked some pot within the last 30 days, certainly impairing his ability to operate a moving vehicle.

Amtrak can't catch a break. The brand that has been dying since its inception. (This photo reminds me of the last good Aerosmith album. This one might be captioned "Amtrak humps Hyundai.")

I love a good train. Unfortunately, America will never have a good train.

Previously in Amtrak sucks.

  • Just took the acela to DC. Well, after sitting in the 20-seat waiting room with 40+ people, I’ll never complain about the DMV again. One leg of the trip: full-price ticket for standing room only. Nice. Oh, did someone say smooth ride? It was like Operation, where you try and walk three feet and not touch the sides. Couldn’t be done.

  • Hmm. I use Amtrak frequently and generally find it fairly comfortable and reliable. I also travel by train fairly frequently in Europe and Asia. I sometimes wonder if some of these people have ever been near a U.S. train. Anyone whose been on a train in Japan or parts of Europe know that although they may be punctual they can be extremely crowded and reserved seats or rooms may not materialize once on board. -2010Oregon

  • Hmm. Use Amtrak all the time and it is generally reasonably comfortable and reliable. I also travel in Europe and Asia and find parts of Amtrak comparable on long haul, in fact in some cases better. I some times wonder if Amtrak's critics have ever stepped foot on a U.S. train... 2010Oregon
