You Tubery Musical Friday Flashback
Seven old songs that could start a weekend. Crack open a brew or two and crank up the speakers. (But you gotta watch, too.)
- In a nice companion piece to a Jeremiah Wright sermon, a couple of blind Black superstars rip into Livin' For The City.
- Beck and his secret homage to Shatner that occurs at about 2:25.
- From the 1966 film Blowup, Jimmy Page, (Jeff) Beck and the Yardbirds rearrange Train Kept a Rollin. An extremely bizarre scene.
- The Eels reenact many of my dreams in this video of a song that won't grow old: Novocaine for the Soul.
- The wit, art, fun and funk of RHCP.
- Tracy Chapman ruled the world with this song for a month a long time ago. Heard it in a store this afternoon, prompting this post.
- A Sony/BMG Market Research team took CAKE's "Short Skirt Long Jacket" out into the streets of LA to see how it would play to a broad focus group. They got some funny, honest results.
Labels: Beck, CAKE, Jimmy Page, music, music video, randomness, Ray Charles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Sony/BMG, Stevie Wonder, The Eels, The Yardbirds, Tracy Chapman, YouTube

Dude! Love it. I just saw 'The Waitress' and have been a Cake fan since. What a tune! Now back to our previously homogenized Chris Tomlin

1. Definitely the right one. Funny thing, some people have periods in time considered to be their prime, Ray and Stevie share that detail that they didn't necessarily have a prime, they were just always good.
2. Amazing how such a kick ass song became a square dance hit. WTF... BTW, now everytime I see the vid I'm sure he's going to start singing rocket man. Viva la Shat.
3. Too many quaaludes anyone?
4. Such a great video, such a great song, such a great band. I've always considered the Eels to be a sleeper hit of a band because all of the albums are so solid. Definitely one of my top 20 bands for lowkey awesomeness.
6. It's not all the time but when Tracey nails a song, it's something to listen to again and again. She's solid most times, but sometimes she's damn epic.
7. He he he he... love the song period. and I think a sexy momma in a short skirt and long jacket looks delish. Plus, how the hell can you go wrong with Mexicanesque horns and that much cowbell???
