Wake Up, All You So-Called Patriots

I can overlook the fact that she wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade. I can understand trying to oust her brother-in-law from his job in defense of her sister in the midst of a nasty custody battle. I can forgive her pretending to be a reformer when she really was in fact a strong advocate of that "bridge to nowhere," among other pork projects. I even understand the Evangelical desire to teach "intelligent design" alongside evolution. I'm even willing to turn a deaf ear to her crazy claim that the War in Iraq was a "task from God."

But when you start putting pressure on the local librarian of your small town to ban books, you've crossed a line in my America. You're not "Putting Country First," lady, unless your country is Nazi Germany.

I expect that the answer to all these charges from the fawning "base" of the Republican party will be, "Reverend Wright! William Ayers!"

Wave your flags, patriots, as you rush to fall in line behind another Cheney.

  • Sarah Palin is worse than Cheney, in the sense that at least he looks evil and supports his lesbian daughter. Satan...err...sarah just forces her 17 year old to have a kid, get married and fuck off.

  • Wow, it takes a blog named 'Jetpack' to keep me grounded (pun intended)

  • Hey, Jim.

You're a good guy. In the coming left wing round-up of right wingers to re-education camps, I will vouch for you and do my best to get you an easy sentence.

If the election goes the other way, I hope you will attend my firing squad.

  • She's also crossing the line in my America when she supports the drilling for oil in the Alaskan National Wildlife refuge: the largest protected wilderness in the US. The drilling will irreversibly damage the refuge without giving us sufficient oil to significantly change the global market price.

  • From a Wasilla resident:

Right or wrong, the Mat-Su Borough (to which the city of Wasilla is subordinate) had in place a "Book Challenge" policy. That policy was under revision. The Wasilla policy was not in line with the Borough. To most who understand the issues, it is clear that the new Mayor was feeling out the librarian on the issues of bringing the policies in line.

The librarian was not fired. She resigned. As with the rest of the staff that supports the Mayor, the Mayor hires the librarian, and has the right to replace former administration staffers, including the librarian, with those of her own choosing. The librarian openly supported the Mayor's political opposition, and was asked, along with a number of other staffers, to resign. A perfectly common practice.

    Much ado about nothing.

  • Pompomist, you've obviously never been to the North Slope...

  • Nope, never been to Alaska, but I can definitely give my opinion. Anything you have to say Anonymous? Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Pompomist: Uininformed opinion is generally useless. Uninformed opinion stated as fact is often misleading. There are valid arguments for not drilling in ANWR, but not your both uninformed and misleading statement that "The drilling will irreversibly damage the refuge..." Put your feet on the ground. Come on up here and look at the land. Then compare what you learn to your statement. Once you're informed, then we'll have intelligent discussion about the real issues.

  • I sense anger in your notes, anonymous. Sorry for the uninformed opinion. I guess what I've seen in the news and read from reputable organizations is useless information:

    I'm out.
