So, You're A Vegetarian?

Or a vegan? Or a raw-foodist? That's cool. But the more you talk about it loudly at work within earshot of my cube, the more I'm going to loudly declare my love of all things meaty and announce randomly what sort of raw delicacy will grace my grill tonight, dripping blood onto the coals for that sizzling flesh smell that causes people to pause in their backyards and wish they were dining at my house.

Big Love for Network Solutions

I like these banners for Network Solutions where the old man’s mouth moves like a marionette’s as he talks about his 36 brides in some sort of unsubtle joke about polygamy. The casting is great, if you can call picking a picture of an old man for a banner campaign “casting.”

It’s the crude cutout nature of it that works for me. Not unlike the men’s faces affixed to screaming girls in the Baconator spot.

Not that the ads get me to go to Network Solutions. GoDaddy stole my “mindshare” for that market years ago when they undercut everybody on domain name pricing.

And doesn't "Network Solutions" have such a late 90s ring to it? So World Wide Web. But I guess they were ahead of their time, since the company was founded in 1979.

Screamin' Funny

I hated the tree-kicking Wendy's ad, but this one works for me. On one forum I saw this remark: "I mean, how is this supossed to get me to go to Wendy's? It's like some weird horror movie directed by Fellini." To which someone else replied, "Who cares about the commercial? It has 6 strips of bacon...it sells itself." Anyway, clueless wonder, it's not a horror film. Men's faces are crudely affixed to the bodies of girls going insane in some sort of Beatlemania over the Baconator. And I think they even used real footage from the era.

I even love the "That's Right" stinger that closes the ad. It's got the WTF/Humor factor + more. It's got 6 strips of bacon. And Saatchi figured it out: a burger of this grotesque magnitude and artery clogging capabilities will only sell to men who like to laugh in the face of death. Hence the pudgy, goofy Vince Vaughn looking guy at the end.
